There is no denying that Grand Theft Auto V has immense staying power. With all of the previous versions of the game selling to the tune of over 45 million copies sold, the PC version due in April is set to help the series continue to smash records. However, a lot of games do well out of the gate and then suffer due to a lack of replayability. While GTA V might not have those issues as much as the next game due to it’s extremely open nature, one way PC gamers have augmented the experience is through modding.
The Grand Theft Auto modding community has been prolific in the previous entries in the series, and there is no sign they are stopping now. Mods can keep games relevant long after a game’s launch. A perfect example of this is Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. This game launched in 2011 and we are still seeing mods even today. GTA V will have the benefit of these mods to either add content for players to enjoy, create new weapons and vehicles, reskin characters, or to place them in entirely different locales. GTA V mods are already being planned, with reports of an Altis Life mod coming to the game.
Altis Life is an Arma III mod that lets players strike out on their own and create a story for themselves. According to Twinfinite, the largest draw for this mod is the “cops and robbers” element. This has inspired a GTA mod called Los Santos Life, which will alter the way players interact with Los Santos in GTA V. Some of the features planned for the Grand Theft Auto V mod are:
Legal ways to make money, such as mining, treasure hunting, buying and trading stocks, and obtaining a job in the public or private sector.
Illegal ways to make money in GTA V including robbing NPCs and other players, growing and selling contraband.
Gang territories to fight over in GTA.
The ability to swap business cards with players and police officers.
While the mod is not even in development yet, you can see the potential. Grand Theft Auto V will allow players using this mod to interact in a way that will change the gameplay, keeping the experience fresh each time. And though GTA V is known for its incredible open worlds, the creativity of its playerbase will keep the PC version relevant throughout the next few years. Couple this with ENB and the ability to turn your friends into the members of The Avengers and the results are limitless in Grand Theft Auto.
