Belkin have brought out a Wemo system, which is an installation for your lights that works in conjunction with an app on your phone, and together it allows you to turn your lights on or off remotely from your phone.
Not only does this allow you to switch your bedroom light off without even getting out of bed once you’re done reading, but it also means you can switch your lights on each night from the other side of the world to fend off potential burglars and fool them into thinking you’re home!
Kevo have created a deadlock for your front door that eradicates the need for a physical key, and it works like this – you press your finger against the deadlock on your front door, and the in-built Bluetooth system automatically searches for your iPhone (which is presumably in your pocket).
Once it registers that your iPhone is within a couple metres of the door, it immediately unlocks for you. The system also allows you to email an extra key to a friend or neighbour in case of emergencies.
This innovation has emerged into huge popularity over the course of 2014, and involves wearing one of many bracelets on the market that tracks how many steps you’re taking each day, monitors your heart rate, and transmits the data to an accompanying app on your iPhone. Hell, you can even bring up a live, on-screen ECG on your very own phone now.
